PENTICTON, B.C.- Hillside Winery is giving back to its community with impactful donations to OneSky and the Foundry.
On Dec. 3, 2019, Hillside Winery launched their OneSky label for Giving Tuesday as they will be donating $10 from every bottle sold of 2016 Cabernet Franc, their Giving Edition, which they have 10 cases. Having some unlabeled wine, general manager Launa Maundrell felt this was the perfect time to further their contribution to OneSky.
“We had a custom label made that incorporates their logo with ours,” says Maundrell. “We put it online for Giving Tuesday. In a couple of hours, we sold over half of it.”
Maundrell expects to see the remaining cases sell quickly since the sale has gone better than anticipated. After sending out a newsletter to their mailing list and wine club members, they received their first full case order within five minutes.
“It’s really nice to see that. We think it’s a great time of year because people are buying wine for the holiday season anyway,” says Maundrell.
Tanya Behardien, executive director at OneSky, says they are honoured to see their name on the special bottle.
“It’s so generous of Hillside to donate the $10 from every bottle,” says Behardien. “I was just blown away when they told us how much from each bottle was going to come to OneSky. All of the money will make a huge difference to the programs and the people we support in the community.”
Behardien was unaware of how sales have been going, and when told she was very happy.
“We live in a generous community and it feels heartwarming that Hillside and their customers are choosing OneSky to support. It will help us to better support local children, families and seniors,” added Behardien.
Behardien says that partnerships such as with Hillside Winery are essential to what they do. They receive funding from the government, but the ability to go above and beyond with services they provide comes from their partnerships.
Another donation that Hillside has made is giving $5,000 to the Penticton Foundry, a youth resource centre, from their tasting fees. Hillside Winery has a history of donating tasting fees to local charities. Since forming a partnership with OneSky a few years ago, Maundrell says they decided to further that partnership by supporting them in as many ways as they can. This year Foundry was chosen because it’s a new initiative they wanted to support.
The Hillside staff also chose to come together to sponsor a family for Christmas, which is another program run through OneSky.
“We polled our staff and they chose to forego the fancy Christmas party so Hillside could put the funds toward helping a local family,” says Maundrell. “We all had a great time shopping and wrapping together.”
“We are really excited to be able to support OneSky and the Foundry. Watching the Foundry go from concept to reality was fantastic,” adds Maundrell. “As a business, our partnership with OneSky is very fulfilling because we recognize they do so much for our community. I don’t think most people realize just how much they do.”
