Supported Child Development (SCD) is a community based program that assists families of children who require extra support needs in order to access inclusive childcare that meets family needs.

Available Services

  • Assisting families in finding childcare programs that best meet the needs of their child and family
  • Service coordination & collaboration with the child’s team to identify developmental goals and determine strategies to support progress towards goals
  • Direct Service may include: support and consultation to promote inclusive environments, child specific strategies and consultations and, when needed, direct staff supports
  • Training and support for parents and childcare providers
  • Resource Lending Library—augmented toys, adaptive equipment, books, videos and resources
  • Referrals to professionals such as Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Mental Health Clinicians, and Assessment teams

Supported Child Development serves children from birth to age twelve who have a developmental delay and who require extra support in their childcare program.

A developmental delay may affect a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional, speech, language or communication skills.

Referral Process

The Supported Child Development Program is part of a community referral process that includes OSNS Child Development Centre, Infant Development Program, Child & Youth Mental Health, Princeton Family Services and Interior Health Speech & Language Services. Download the referral form.

There is one referral form for all of these services and referrals are received and reviewed collaboratively to ensure consistent, effective and coordinated services for families.

Families can refer their child directly or they may be referred by community partners such as early childhood educators, social workers, doctors, Strong Start facilitators, teachers, caregivers, Infant Development Consultants, therapists, and Public Health Nurses.
