Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – Observing thoughts versus participating in them, thoughts aren’t good or bad, wrong or right, they just are.
ACT – Living a life that is value-congruent. We should be very clear on what we value so that our actions aren’t out of line with what we value (value-incongruence).
Mindfulness and meditation are very helpful in the process of observing our own thoughts, and understanding how emotion is felt in the body.
Sadness and grief should be honoured, and moved through/released from the body and mind at its own pace.
The client is the expert in their own experience.
Client-focused approach, with a focus on the common factors of the therapeutic alliance, and building an empathetic connection based on trust, and open/honest communication.
